I think I am ready for reassembly of the breaks, hub, and spindle. This was an interesting tear down and clean up. Some of the dirt was hard to get off even with soda blasting it. I will go very slow on this one to learn and the next one should go faster.

So I learned in kdenlive you can split up clips into sequences and then order them together on a main timeline. Such an awesome thing to learn it has really helped with this latest video to only edit in sections. I can concentrate on each part individually. Someday I’ll be good at this 😂

Jekyll is hard mode for starting a blog. I have tried tons of them including rolling my own. I always end up back at self-hosted Wordpress. That is my recommendation, it is reasonably easy with tons of how-tos. And it is easy for publishing.

Makes sense. I have on the list of someday improvements to swap out the transaxle to have more torque combined with my new motor I should be able to do a lot. I won’t be bushwhacking, but I should be able to handle my hills. I hope 😂.

I worked on getting my dad’s old parts cleaner going, it is over 40 years old. Then cleaned some grease and oil. I followed that with soda blasting and these parts are looking clean.
I have a little more cleanup then I am ready to put the wheel hubs back together.
I am glad with the progress made and learning I have done.

I successfully diagnosed and fixed a problem with my truck with no outside input. It ended up being the tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt. So not a hard fix but I am just happy I was able to figure it out on my own.
I don’t grow up learning how to fix or diagnose car issues. My parents would just get new cars every couple of years. So over the last few years I have tried to figure this stuff out myself. I still have a long way to go.

Electric I am upgrading to an ac electric system with a lithium battery. A future project this year or next is to build a solar system that can run a few essentials and charge the cart. Then I can power my cart and never have to pay for energy 😁.

I finally finished making my magnetic bandsaw fence. Yay for 3d printers.
In my journey of getting this grizzly bandsaw back up and going. I needed a fence, so I decided to see about making a magnetic fence. It worked out great.
Both magnets have 180lbs of downard force each. They are securly fastned to the powertec extruded aluminum.
I did some test cutting tonight for my YouTube video and it worked great. I can't wait to finish up the bandsaw table, and put the bandsaw to work. I have some christmas presents to make.

Worked on the heater in the camper and every time I work on the camper I wonder how these things stay together. They are so cheaply and terribly made. I got the heater working at least.
In the picture you can see the water line in the back laying over the top of the heater. I feel like this is a bad idea if something goes wrong with the heater.

I was able to get a harbor freight dust collector for $100 on Facebook marketplace. Here is step one of the modifications I am going to do.
I don’t have time to do a lot at one time so I am going to do a series of videos where I make changes and test effectiveness.
First step is to switch to a single port instead of a Y.
I will also say 3D Printing has changed how I look at projects and customizations.

So I abused the crap out of my greenworks electric chainsaw and cut a part of a cedar tree into some thick slabs to make some Christmas presents.
This cedar tree was cutdown over 7 years ago, and I finally decided to get it slabbed. I don’t have an Alaskan mill or anything. I just used some brain power time and got the slabs.
Flat is not a thing with these so there is going to be a lot of work on the bandsaw, jointer and planer.
My ultimate goal is to turn these into jewelry boxes for my daughters made from wood from the house they were born and grew up in.
Now I need get a moisture meter, and make sure they are dry enough.

I finally got the 18” bandsaw running well enough to use. With the new blade guides, and new guard holder in place I was able to tune the guide and give some test cuts.
Something isn’t quite right with the bandsaw, but it is an 18” and works well enough for now. With as cheap as I got it and the work to restore it will last for a while. However it will need to be replaced someday, hopefully a while away.
Now to make a fence for some resawing. The 3D printer should come in handy for that.

I 3d printed a part for my bandsaw. I have had a bandsaw I have been trying to get back up and running for a couple of years now. My biggest hiccup is the guard holder.
I bought a whole new bandsaw blade guide since the one on my used bandsaw was crumbling due to bad metal. Well, I have had a number of problems, but the last one was the blade guard. It wasn't built right, and I wans't sure what to do about it.
Well I finally thought about it and this piece isn't critical to be metal. Just sturdy and the right size.
So I took the one I had re-designed it and 3d printed a replacement, and it fixed my issue perfectly. I am so glad it fixed it the first time too.
Now I can finish getting the bandsaw going agin and using it.

The new workbench is done. It is 30”x8’. I used a lot of new techniques. Then I sealed it with a quart of polyurethane. Minus the casters or only cost about $150. I had use permanent casters because mistakes were made. 😂
I made a bunch of mistakes. From mismeasuring to not accounting for planing boards down in the design.
I am excited it is done and I can move on to some more projects, after I clean my shop… again.

This is interesting because for the west it is a look at how we treat animals other cultures think are sacred.
Specifically cows. We raise them for meat, but in India not so much.
For us we are not happy at the idea of raising dogs for meat.
While I personally wouldn’t do it as I love dogs. I am not against others doing it. Especially since at the end of the day they are animals.
However if they are CAFO style farms that i specifically have a problem with, just like here.

Hah I have found I am adjusting to the heat. I have had to work in my shop fixing my mower in the evenings after work.

Sometimes in life you use a tool and you think “I am dumb not getting this sooner”.
My father-in-law had one of these and it is amazing. So now I have one too. 🤣
Interestingly when it comes to grease I was researching grease to use on my farmall. The manual says “Use IH grease”. Well what grease is that?
After doing a bunch of research someone hit me with some wisdom. My tractor is nearly 80 yeas old, the cheap grease is better@than the premium grease 80 years ago.

We finally got this shed put together. What is super interesting is it was cheaper to get this than to build one from wood the same size. This is 8’x7.5’.
This will really help get all the garden equipment over to the gardens 🤣 and out of my shop.
Now to finish fixing a mower then maybe I can start on house renovations.

I got my grandparents tractor going again, big win for me. My dad was down helping brush hog and ran it out of diesel. All we had to do was loosen lines to get fuel to flow again.
If I had to figure that out 1 year ago I would be stuck. I am super excited about the knowledge gain from the last year.

I released a new video on YouTube today about using spray emitters with your drip irrigation system.
I don't like straight drip because the locatino of my plants move year to year, so I wanted to spray. However, with raised beds the solutions haven't been great so I finally figured out polytube, and spray emitters.
In the video I walk through using them, and show putting them in place, and a bit on how I organized them. I am surprised there hasn't been more videos on how to do this so I diceded to fill that gap.

The slide is up and the kids love it. It went decently well building it. My other kids wanted to help so it got real crazy real fast.
Not sure if they enjoyed it or got anything out of it, but I will assume they did.

I am building a platform for the kids play set to add the slide to. My daughter really wanted to help, which I am not good at.
So I took this evening and precut everything so all she needs to help do is line things up and make sure we are square.
I am also hoping this goes quick enough it holds her attention. If nothing else I’ll get it done faster.
It has been a learning experience for me to try to include my kids in projects. We will see how it goes.

I just spent the last 2 days replacing the radiator on our mower.
It is now changed and running, but wow did it suck getting it going. Also extra aggravating that 2 days of my vacation were spent on this.
Hopefully this is the last fixing of the season. I am going to put some more time into getting my cub running so I have it as a backup.

This is the state of our camping trip. Our outdoor shower broke a handle so now we can’t use water until we get it replaced. Off to Lowe’s for parts so we can use water.
This thing really needs a central manifold so you can turn off water to each location. This has the reverse it branches everywhere.

The complete differences between my work life and non-work life are stark at times.
Today I did a planning session to modify an Open Source project to do better-automated load testing for our infrastructure. As well as some meetings around a microservice re-architecture.
I also have been working on researching Solana contracts development in rust, and understanding NFTs data structures on Solana for future integration into work systems, hopefully someday.
After work. I am going to be working on watering my garden, moving my chickens and hopefully working on my tractor.
Just two very very different worlds. lol.

I ordered a rebuild kit for my Cubs carburetor. I haven’t rebuilt one in nearly 30 years and that was dad showing me. It shall be fun.
I also ordered a new lever for the starter so I don’t have to press the button on the starter itself.

I got part 1 of my next video recorded tonight on a bit of an overview of drip irrigation that uses spray emitters instead of straight drip.
This is my first time going this route and I am liking it.
Next I need daylight to install. Then b-roll and edit.

My favorite is vegetarian-raised organic eggs. Once I started raising chickens and learning about the different systems I was floored when I read that.

Same here. The family is sick this weekend and our local internet tower has been down, just got it back a few minutes ago. So we have been pounding through books all weekend.

I have been reading a history book on farming. It has started with how land was apportioned before and after the revolutionary war.
That part is surprisingly interesting.
What caught me is they had a blurb about “Manifest Destiney”.
It got me thinking with has hard as the concept is pushed in high schools, college history, and sjw’s. I wonder how true and all encompassing it really was?
I have come to learn in reading history, post school, that the things pushed the hardest in high school, while true, wasn’t quite as significant or bad as described.
After all the best lies 90% the truth.
I now have another topic to research.

Whole family just went to urgent care. We all tested negative for strep, but we have some sort of viral infection.
I am about to go scorched earth for the next couple of days on cleaning and quarantining the family. So tired of this.

So a happy accident.
We move our chickens around the property in a ChickShaw, and we throw them food scraps.
Well our mower has been broken down for the last 5 weeks, so no mowing, I haven't been too disappointed about it. Well we finally got it going again Tuesday night.
Well, my wife did not want to wait for the weekend, for me. She took it out mowing and found a bunch of areas where volunteer vegetables are growing where chickens were.
This is kind of cool. She went around those areas so we have extra garden spaces that are fertilized and growing, that we didn't even work on. Kind of a cool thing. We shall see how they develop.
We might wait a while every year before mowing to see what kind of stuff pops up.

Sometimes I wonder if it is worth learning some things.
I just spent $80 on 2 books that is the complete history of the internal combustion engine, and the development of the diesel engine.
There is literally no reason for me to learn the history of engines. Even if it has been a curiosity for years, I gain no value in learning it.
To work on an engine I don’t need to know the history, society is moving to electric engines so the future value is
negligible.
I have read about 8 history books in the last 3 months on agriculture, tractors, and farm tech. Most of it does not gain me anything.
So is it really worth it?
