Does life in #Montreal just mean you have fruit flies in your house all summer? Every year I freeze my compost, put away fruit, put recycling outside, have traps and there are literally always a few of them in the house.
Today I was pouring boiling water in my drain thinking that might fix it.
Am I just wasting my time?

What's the best battery size to impress people with?

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a difference
where #canada and #usa were polar opposites before.

I got quoted in this piece.
I think @npub1fdr…lvhs is correct and wish Canada would realize that the "good behaviour" light switch isn't wired to the bulb.
In the end though, this country is so fucking frustratingly conflict adverse from the individual all the way up to the government.
As far as political viability goes, funding something like #NLnet for Canadian orgs and teaming up on the Eurostack over the next few years is my focus. Huge kilometerage 😉 for the money.

The #SearchEngine podcast created a #Mastodon instance to learn about the fediverse and are getting that new user bump.

Attention #Fediverse save the date!
On February 24th, 2026 in #Montreal we're putting on a fediverse event.
- A morning of technical talks
- An accessible afternoon to bring-a-friend
- An evening to socialize.
For my bit, I'll be doing a talk on how content creators can build their own self-hosted #Patreon with FOSS tools!

Are modern cruise ships the best example of suburban people choosing to spend their vacations as pedestrians?
Although unlike Disneyland, Malls and Historic Cities, this time they’re paying for a 100km “air gap” from cars.

There's a number of pro-housing #YIMBY candidates in #Montreal needing your help this election.
We're putting up signs, delivering flyers and having a lot of fine while we're at it.

On my way home from #FediCon I just happened to walk past rainbow park and got to see it in person. Nice way to end this unexpected trip to Vancouver.

Canada should be building abundant housing so entrepreneurship and starting a family isn’t so financially irrational.
Instead the government is going to build oil pipelines and roads for mines.

The @npub1c36…t8sz podcast's first field trip... down the road!
We're really lucky to have @npub1764…nuj0 in #Montreal, he's a fountain of knowledge on the all the ponderings I've had over the last year.

I'd always heard that fascism takes a different form depending on the county.
American fascism was hard to detect as it starts off each time as this pseudo entertainment/joke to test the waters.
Canada is getting fucking Ukrained right now and looking at global news outlets, hardly anyone seems to have noticed.

it reminds me of the 3D movie thing from a decade ago. I only want this thing 5% of the amount the industry is pushing it.

#Quebec just started unionizing the Amazon warehouses.
So Amazon is closing them so they can subcontract to gig worker delivery companies.
Those Canadians were on their way to stable, dignified jobs.
Now Amazon is there holding up the decapitated head of Quebec workers, waving it around for other jurisdictions to get a look at.
It's time for government intervention.

So much to say about this.
First of all: This was predicted by everyone who understood electoral systems.
It's bound to consistently happen in our system where one side of the political spectrum is fragmented.

How do you find new hashtags to follow on #mastodon?

The largest issue for the "pro" side of US electoral reform is a naïve pursuit of perfection instead of yes-and-ing any "better" proposal.
The green party is like a guy who has never managed to get a job interview, turning one down because they're holding out for a management position.
Buddy. Take the interview. You have to start somewhere.

Most Canadians want Justin to step down. But I wonder if it’s possible no-one wants the role?
Who wants to put on the captains hat for the job of “Going down with ship”?

I hope Mr Beast can avoid a Musk like future. Once people start attacking guys like him, they don’t seem to be able to keep their personal brand on course.
He’s so hungry for success and fame though.

This is the performance of my first major video on #YouTube that I posted to #PeerTube months beforehand.
It’s done well.
PeerTube first had no negative impact as far as I can tell, in fact premiering on PeerTube let me polish and trim a minute from the video which made it a better watch.
Fediverse fans also reported watching it a second time for the YouTube release.
Conclusion: Counterintuitively I think I got more YouTube views as a result of posting on PeerTube first.
