I could pull the hard drive out of PS2 (if equipped), PS3, and PS4, make a drive image, and restore it to a new drive if needed. I can't do that with PS5. It's onboard boot SSD will die some day. ...can't replace that. Just throw the whole thing away.

For those of you new to #Linux: How can you be sure when you SHOULD be entering your admin password?
- When you're installing software.
- When you are changing a setting that would affect all users (if you have just one, imagine you have several)
- When changing filesystems, formatting drives, or otherwise affecting the filesystem itself.
- When accessing folders you don't have user access to (Mostly things above /home/user)
- Updating (affects all users, counts as installing software)

Suddenly, something popped the admin password request box on my #Linux system. This is exactly what that is for. I know I'm not doing anything that should require elevated privileges, so I clicked cancel. Whatever triggered that now can't do whatever shit it was trying to do to my system.

I don't ask a lot from my phone. I don't care if it plays games.
I just want to mindlessly scroll Mastodon, look stuff up on duckduck, and have my calendars. That's the bulk of what I do on it. When I go out, I need GPS... but for some reason, the last few times, I can have EITHER the map OR the blue line to follow, not both. Why? Who the fuck knows, it's probably out of memory!

I don't have some niche weird calendar. It's just a NextCloud account that syncs on literally everything else I have. It synced with Android with 0 issue, it syncs on all my Linux laptops - Using Kontact or Evolution or the PIM add on.... Ah, they're missing on this laptop cause I forgot to enable it. Boop, there's my appointments, easy peasy.
On my FLX1... CONSTANT sync failures. Or like what it's doing now where I can't even save an appointment. It acts like it does, and just eats it.

If anyone in #Portland Oregon has experience repairing a charging port on things, I'd be open to considering paying someone to repair my PS #Vita. My workbench area is in shambles due to chaos (and quite frankly, so am I).
I don't particularly care if it's a replacement USB Micro, or a USB C mod, as long as both charging and data work, and it's as close to stock appearance as possible.
I love my Vita, and there's going to be a period of time where PS4/5 and Portal won't be usable.

Hell, one of my laptops kinda has SIP. It's wonky, but I can dial out. I get so few calls, sending everything to voicemail and only returning calls would not be a big deal.
Pair that with a SIP based home phone on my network of the same number, and I'd already solve 99% of my needs to answer incoming calls.

It's about the fact that you bought the physical thing with the content already on it, and it will play in a specific player made for it using a standard that applies to all the similar content.
If movies were sold on read only flash drives, those would likely be considered physical media, especially if they became a standard that you could just plug in to your Roku, PS4/5, Apple TV, etc and watch like any movie on disc.

I decided to open the Sony Pictures app on PS5 to see what they've given me...
On PS4, I got in to Playstation Video. You "buy" movies. No more discs, cool. So I did. Shortly after I bought some, that app was discontinued. My movies are stuck there. On PS5 that app is limited to viewing my library, the service is otherwise shut down.
Now they have Sony Pictures Core. They want me to buy movies. None of my PS Video purchases are here.

An important note about VPNs. They are often sold with the implied idea that it's a magic privacy tool. It absolutely is not.
Your ISP MIGHT not see what you're connected to, but...
If you visited a site Facebook tracks while on VPN, or with anything Meta sitting in your browser or device, all that VPN traffic is associated with you

I'm on Furilabs FLX1 running FuriOS.
Chatty doesn't have voice chat. I grabbed Dino for my laptop. I can add it to my phone later if I feel I need it. I so rarely voice chat - it's typically either an unplanned phone call from somewhere that would only use actual phone, or a planned activity with a friend that I use a laptop for after getting all comfy.

That phone number is a back up contact. Primary is still Telegram for now... learning the ins and outs of Matrix and XMPP.
The bonus to moving accounts to use a sip number - the same lack of attachment to a sim card means I can hop mobile cariers all I want without the hassle of updating banks and utilties and whatever else.
Same voip carrier lets me add a number for like $3 if I later feel I need more seperation.

Implimenting a new component to my privacy plan. I have had my phone number for years, in phnes that track location (be it GPS or cell triangulation) and have used it for everything - including so so many loyalty cards. I didn't know better.
I reduced my phone plan a little, and used that freed-up $ to get a very low minutes voip. I plan to move things like loyalty cards, various accounts, etc to that sip. Then change my cell number and only give that number to actual friends.

was absolutely right about single tube portable air conditioners. I knew that, but this one was offered for me to use free, and I did not realize it'd suck the extreme heat from the crawl space under the roof. It literally used electricity to provide net negative cooling power. 🤣

The fuck is their end game? Extract every last dime and do what, exactly?
When all the workers die, the fuck are they going to do? You can't eat money. Someone has to make the money in to food.
Someone has to build and clean the yahts and mansions, someone has make the materials and products for that.
So what the fuck is their end game?
This is why I'm so confused by people who are unkind to "the help". Who TF will be "the help"?

Yeah, it can do the same basics - phone, text, calendar, contacts... But the extras it does are an entirely different set of extras. Everything is deliberate choices. There's no "*ding* Hey, look what's happening on this app!"

My favorite thing about my @npub1pl0…qn57 phone, besides the lack of tracking, is the impromptu experiments and tinkering. It's handy. This morning, on a whim, I tried to run Doom on it. It didn't work for reasons that aren't the phone's fault... but I was entertained for hours instead of mindlessly doomscrolling. It is a very differerent device than my Android phone, and it encourages different behavior.

I got ONE God damn credit card just to get some rewards for my Playstation and now I'm "pre-approved" and/or "pre-selected" and/or "pre-considered" for about a dozen cards a day. Fuck off, no! ONE credit card is more than enough! Technically I have 2, but my secured card needs an app that requires Google Attestation and thus can no longer run on my phone.
That reminds me, I need to check that card and make sure there isn't still balance chilling on it.

If I ever got to be in charge of law, day 1, I'd make it a legal requirement that advertisers pay for the time, power, and data their ads cost private citizens.
Ie - postal junk mail - Take however long it takes to walk to the mailbox, retrieve the mail, read it, rant that it looked like real mail, crumple it up, and throw it in the trash, and then calm down, times the minimum wage, and add in the fraction of their trash bill based on the space the junk takes up.

Ok, Now I need #Linux help. I can't log in.
It's a terminal only set up. Entering the username comes back with "Login incorrect" and doesn't ask my password. I can login as root at the local keyboard, and I can su to the other user. passwd -S says the account isn't locked out. Reboot didn't help, updates didn't help. Cannot log in to anything via ssh. Attempting to change the password incase I got it wrong says no, as the password matches the old password.
Distro is OpenSuse Tumbleweed
