#Journalism outlets will have to find their own version of “digital sovereignty” through direct contacts with customers, newsletters, the Fediverse, live events, and a self-controlled online ad business separate from Google. But those are huge tasks, and the question is whether they can achieve that before going bankrupt. If society wants journalism to persist, now’s the time to subscribe to outlets you don’t want to vanish. Otherwise, expect extinctions and even more Google/Meta/OpenAI control.
