10 Survival Skills You Can Trade After The Collapse.
In a perfect storm of economic, environmental, and political turmoil, society can collapse leaving many without the means of sustaining themselves. Groups of people will then gather together in hopes of rekindling some semblance of the society that existed.
Just because you can’t do everything doesn’t mean you don’t have any skills to contribute. Without commonly found amenities, a community will need the combined skills of the group to succeed.
Some skills are more effective than others in a post-collapse society. For example, you won’t necessarily need an accountant to do your taxes. But there will be a need for a cook, a gardener, and many other skills that you can easily learn starting today.
Before we take a look at the specific invaluable skills needed to start over we should realistically gauge how severe the tipping point is and the potential fallouts that can occur.
What Would a Post-Collapse Community Look Like?
In the event of a societal collapse, there is a little bit of a gray area where we don’t know how severe it will be. There is a consensus that the vast majority of the population won’t be able to support themselves, but that’s about it.
There will be little pockets of sustainability as people pool their resources and come together. In that sense, we won’t revert to a completely primitive state. Keep in mind that this only takes into account the collapse of cities and governments.
As long as there isn’t a cataclysmic event, we should still have the technology and means to run it.
In the event of a seriously violent Earth-wide event, such as a volcano erupting, an electromagnetic pulse, or a meteor hitting us, things will start to get trickier to navigate. Many nations have experienced a societal collapse in some manner and have bounced back within a couple of generations.
The best example to come to mind would be the nuclear bombs that were detonated in Japan in 1945. The country went through an excruciatingly hard time but persevered regardless. They are now incredibly prosperous and have preserved their culture.
For this particular scenario, we can imagine a large amount of damage both in infrastructure and the economy. You won’t have access to resources such as gas and oil. Food supply will dwindle or be nonexistent as factory farms are destroyed. There are no supply chains to restock the shelves.
There will be no healthcare facilities to help the injured. Medicine will be in short supply and hoarded by those who thought ahead to prepare.
Furthermore, there will be no formal organization, things will be chaotic. People will find sanity in small groups as they come together to try and keep going. The chaos will be seen on a massive scale.
But only for a short time
Humans are resilient and after the initial collapse, those who are prepared will be able to utilize their alternative sources of energy, and share skills with others. The necessity of living will bring citizens together for a common cause.
Small communities will flock together, some will wander, while large families will most likely form their groups.
Gone will be the days of money, which will be replaced by something more valuable. The knowledge and skill set to contribute to a greater cause out of necessity and nothing else.
The only wealth you will have post-collapse is the skills you bring to the table to fulfill the needs for human survival. Technology breaks down and structures will crumble but passing on knowledge and experience is the key to survival.
10 Invaluable Skills That Will Benefit Your Community
In the new hands-on world, you can utilize these 10 skills to help sustain yourself and the community you happen to find yourself in. A lot of them you can incorporate into your existing day-to-day life, making them a little less grueling to learn.
Gardening
Probably one of the most important skills to have post-collapse is gardening. Any skills that are used in food production but this one in particular will help you create a sustainable source of food.
Not only can gardening create food for you and the community, but it can also be used for bartering. This enables you to trade your food for other items that you might need.
Over and above the obvious feeding element of gardening, producing and preserving seeds is important for the years following when growing conditions might not be optimal. Seeds can also be used in trade for other goods.
Animal Husbandry
Animal husbandry is the act of raising livestock for meat, milk, eggs, and other products. The process is not limited to raising, daily care, breeding, and butchering.
In a post-collapse world, it will be difficult to get food for your livestock so it’s important to pay close attention to their diet. For example, if you learned some gardening skills to grow veggies then you can use the biowaste to help feed your livestock.
Construction/Handyman Skills
As power tools and computer-guided machines stop working, hand tools will have to be used instead. Without the aid of modern conveniences, construction skills will be invaluable. Even minor skills such as measuring, knowledge of tools, and basic structural experience will go a long way.
You will have to repair existing structures or build new ones in a post-collapse scenario. Even the most basic of structures, such as an outhouse, will need to be built. Carpentry in particular will be a huge asset since wood may be the only plentiful resource around for you to work with.
Hunting/Foraging/Fishing
Unfortunately, grocery stores are more than likely out of commission so you won’t be able to go to your local meat aisle for steak.
For hunting, you want to learn skills such as wilderness tracking, field dressing, and trapping. If you don’t have hunting gear available then you will want to learn how to craft your own in the wilderness. You must be able to hunt animals to provide food and furs for your community.
Fishing is another great skill to learn and fishing rods are inexpensive and durable. You’ll want to learn how to create hooks, how to create your rod, and techniques on how to clean fish. You might want to check out what species are in the area that you reside in and keep some notes on what fish you shouldn’t be eating.
Foraging is a great skill to have, simply because it’ll keep you from eating something bad for you and getting sick. Knowing the edible flora in your area can provide insight into the food and natural medicine that might be available.
Additionally, knowing what plant species are in the vicinity can help you hunt since it will tell you what kind of animals might be roaming around. For example, rabbits love the new tender shoots of low-lying plants and you can often see their diagonal nibbles on the tips of branches.
Herbology/First-Aid
Medicine will be in short supply or nonexistent, leaving people vulnerable to a plethora of health hazards post-collapse. Natural medicine has seen a resurgence in the last few decades and for good reason, without society, we have no medicine.
Most people won’t know how to create their own medicine let alone diagnose their maladies. Short of becoming a pseudo witch doctor, learning about growing your own herbs and foraging those from the environment will be vital for a community.
Over and above that, basic first-aid skills should be acquired by everyone. This includes stitching, setting breaks, managing burns, and cleaning wounds. Basic anatomy knowledge can help with diagnosing internal issues. There’s a reason why doctors in small tribes are often held in high regard and it’s for their knowledge of healing.
Sewing
Once the clothing stores have been emptied you will be hard-pressed to find replacements. You won’t be able to order anything online and more than likely will be stuck with what you already own. Learning how to mend your clothing will become vital in a world where you can’t buy more.
This doesn’t mean that you’ll need to go and learn how to use a sewing machine (you probably won’t have the power for it anyway), but simple repairs with a needle and thread are well within your grasp. Once you learn the basics then it becomes easier to work with patterns and materials to create new clothing, should you need it.
Off-Grid Cooking/Preservation
There is no sense in learning how to provide food if you don’t know how to cook it or preserve it for long-term storage. Most people take cooking for granted since they can use a microwave or air fryer to do the cooking for them.
Once you realize that you’ll need to build your own oven or smokehouse then the reality of the situation gets a little more serious. Luckily, these kinds of skills are easy to learn and test out in your backyard.
Just like in a household, the kitchen is where the community is going to gather for nourishment and morale. Having someone around who knows how to make food items edible sustains people in more than one way.
Food preservation methods are important to learn, especially if you have more food than you can eat. For meat, you can learn how to cure, smoke, or dry it to create shelf-stable food for learning times.
Pickling is great for veggies and the ingredients you need are minimal. Food preservation will be vital in a time with no refrigeration or freezing capabilities.
Sustainable Energy
There is a large chunk of the world currently using sustainable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric. In a post-collapse scenario, you will most likely still run into people with these energy-producing devices. Small pockets will still have portable solar generators or even panels set up and connected to batteries.
With the right skills, you may be able to scavenge solar panels and other equipment off of existing infrastructure. There’s even a video here explaining how to make solar panels out of old CDs and a picture frame.

Luxury items will be few and far between meaning they will be highly tradable. Candlemaking is a valuable skill as it provides a source of light and heat using materials that you don’t have to buy. In an age where batteries will die and not be replaced, a candle will be the inevitable replacement. If you can find a colony of bees there’s a chance you can harvest the wax to turn into candles.
Everybody will need to wash themselves at some point and they can’t exactly go to the store to buy soap. Primitive soap-making techniques are still practiced today and can be made using the ashes out of a firepit. Since you can make soap in large quantities, using them as a trading item will be an asset.
Final Thoughts
Many of these invaluable skills are a life-long journey to master them; However, you can still learn the basics with a little time and dedication.

20 Places to Scavenge for Supplies After SHTF.
Some of you might be thinking, “I'm a prepper, I won't have to scavenge for supplies. I already have everything I need.” Maybe, maybe not.
Even if you've been prepping for years, it's still possible you forgot a few things. But even if you didn't forget anything, you could still end up in a situation where you need something you never thought you'd need.
What if your shelter or vehicle is damaged? You may have to go looking for parts.
What if a crucial piece of gear is destroyed? You may have to go looking for a replacement.
What if your mother's prescription medications are lost? You may have to go looking for replacement meds.
What if you have to take in a pregnant woman or a parent with a small child? You may have to go looking for baby formula.
These are just a few possibilities off the top of my head. There are dozens of situations you won't think of until you're in them.
The point is, you might have to scavenge for supplies after the shit hits the fan. If someone's life is on the line, you'll have no choice. But before I explain how to scavenge, I want to clear up some confusion about the difference between scavenging and looting.
Scavenging is Not Looting
After hurricane Katrina, we all saw videos of people running down the street with arms full of jewelry and electronics. Were they scavenging or looting? I think that's pretty clear. Looters are not looking for things they need to stay alive; they're just taking advantage of the situation.
Looters know someone is going to miss the stolen items. They know the owner will eventually return and find out what's missing. For these reasons, looters are no different from common thieves.
Scavengers are completely different. They only search for things after the end of the world as we know it, and they only take things that have been discarded or are unlikely to be missed.
There could be a situation where you have to take food or medicine that will be missed, but I believe this is justified if someone needs it to live. Taking food or medicine right out of someone else's hands is another matter.
I know of some legalists who insist that stealing is stealing no matter the circumstances, but in my opinion, morality is not a simple list of do's and don'ts. And frankly, people who are squeamish about morally gray areas will not do well after the SHTF.
Moving on, here's how to scavenge after the SHTF.
Send a Scout
If you know the area you want to search, it's a good idea to send a scout with binoculars, a radio, and a gun.
Scouts should use their binoculars to watch the area for a few hours and make sure no one is living there and that there are no bandits lying in wait. It might sound paranoid, but some people become very dangerous when there are no police to keep them in check.
The last thing you want is to get robbed or possibly killed while scavenging for supplies.
The radio is so your scout can stay in touch. If the area is compromised or not worth the trouble, the group's leader can instruct the scout to return or to check another area. If you lose contact with your scout, you'll know something is wrong and can send reinforcements. But the reinforcements need to be careful not to wander into a trap.
The purpose of the scout's gun should be obvious.
When surveying the area, the scout needs to note any obstacles that might make the area more trouble than it's worth. Examples include barbed wire fences, high walls, ditches, streams, and so forth. All these things might make it too difficult or dangerous to lug back supplies.
The scout should also note whether any buildings in question have been damaged by things such as bombs or earthquake. You don't want the stairs you're climbing to collapse or a ceiling to fall on your head while you're digging through the rubble.
If you have local maps, you should study them carefully to figure out all the ways in and out of the area you want to search. Plan your route carefully, and know alternate routes in case your main route gets cut off.
You and your group will have to weigh the costs versus the benefits and the risks versus the rewards before searching an area. Is the thing you want to search for necessary to save someone's survival, or is it just something that would make you slightly more comfortable?
Make a Plan
Once you've decided where to go and what to look for, you'll have to decide who to send. Never send someone alone. He or she could twist an ankle or something and need help returning to camp. Also, there could be heavy obstacles or supplies that require at least two people to move.
And remember, one person is far more likely to be robbed or killed than two or more people. Ideally, you would send several people, but that depends on how many you can spare. You don't want to leave children alone at your camp.
Your group should take a vulture toolkit with them. This is a kit with things you might need for scavenging, such as bags, cordage, lock picks, cutting tools, a siphon, water jugs, and so forth. I also recommend bringing respirators and goggles in case the location's air is full of dust or smoke.
If you have several areas to search, you'll have to decide the order in which to search them. It's better to start further out and work your way back toward camp so you don't waste energy carrying supplies farther than necessary.
If you know the heaviest items are going to be in a particular place, go there last. If scavenging your area is going to take several days or weeks, you should get a map and mark the locations you search so you don't accidentally visit the same place twice.
Where to Look
Pretty much everywhere! Here are some possible targets and what you may find within them.
1. Automotive Shops
You have a better chance of finding the part you need here than in a department store. It's true now, and it will be true after the SHTF, too.
2. Cars
You'll want to check the glove box, under the seats, and in the trunk for snacks, tools, and other useful items. Parts of the car itself might prove useful, too. The mirrors could be used for signaling, the wiring for cordage, the upholstery for bedding and insulation, the battery for power (if someone in your group is mechanically inclined), and of course the engine parts if you need them for your own vehicle.
Here's a list of 13 things you can scavenge from cars.
3. Churches
I know, stealing supplies from a church is pure evil, right? But again, it's not stealing if you're in an end-of-the-world type scenario and the church has been completely abandoned. Churches that give food to the needy might have lots of canned food in the kitchen and closets.
4. Distribution Centers
Most people will hit grocery stores first, so it will be a little longer before the warehouses are picked clean. Even then, there may be a few things that were overlooked. Also, check the semi-trailers. You may find non-perishable foods and other supplies.
5. Dumpsters
It won't be fun, but you might find some hidden treasures in dumpsters. There's a book worth checking out called The Art and Science of Dumpster Diving.
6. Fire Stations
You may find food, supplies, and clothing. Plus, the fire engine has a tank with hundreds of gallons of water. It will need to be filtered, though.
7. Gas Stations
These will probably be picked clean, but you never know. It's worth a look.
8. Government Buildings
Most federal installations have commercial grade solar panels. You may also find backup lighting and emergency supplies.
9. Grocery Stores
These will probably be picked clean, too, but you may find food in less obvious places such as under shelves, behind displays, and beneath cash registers. Also check the bathrooms, the offices, the stock room, and the loading dock.
10. Hospitals
Obviously these should have lots of food, clothes, and medical supplies. Check every single closet and every single drawer.
11. Houses
Check everywhere–rooms, garage, basement, attic, backyard, storage sheds, the garden if there is one, etc. The water heater has up to 70 gallons of drinking water. Better yet, look for houses with swimming pools. Also keep an eye out for metal mailboxes which can be converted into wood stoves.
12. Manufacturing Facilities
They may have fuel, batteries, tools, first aid supplies, and all kinds of useful items.
13. Marinas
Check abandoned boats. They usually have supplies like emergency rations, communication equipment, fishing equipment, and possibly guns.
14. Office Buildings
Check break rooms for vending machines and check desks for snacks and small tools. There should be fire extinguishers in most rooms and cleaning supplies in the janitor's closet.
15. Pawn Shops
If you're lucky you'll find weapons, ammo, and other miscellaneous gear. You might even find some working electronics such as walkie-talkies or a ham radio.
16. Pet Stores
If your pets are still okay, a pet store might make it possible for you to keep feeding them without giving up any of your own food. You could also eat it yourself, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you're very desperate. There are no FDA regulations on pet food and it could make you sick if you eat too much.
17. Restaurants
These will probably be empty, but check anyway. There may be a few cans or bags of food that were overlooked. Anything that was in the freezer will have gone bad, though.
18. Retail Stores
See “Grocery Stores” above. Consider grabbing some non-electric entertainment such as books, cards, board games, sports equipment, etc.
19. Schools
There's a lot to be found in schools–tools, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, cleaning supplies, and possibly food in the cafeteria. If you have time and can get them open, you might want to check the lockers as well. There may be some snacks with a long shelf life in them.
20. Self-storage Facilities
If you have time to pry open all of them, it might be worth it. You probably won't find any food or perishable items, but there's a chance you'll find some clothes or useful gear and equipment.

Ancient Egyptian religion was one of the most sophisticated belief systems of the ancient world.

Few characters in literature are as unforgettable as Don Quixote.
Written by Miguel de Cervantes in the early 17th century, this novel is often considered one of the first modern novels ever written.
At first glance, the story seems almost comedic — an aging man reads so many tales of knights and heroic adventures that he begins to believe he is one himself.
Armed with rusty armor, a thin horse, and a powerful imagination, he rides into the world to become a knight-errant.
He calls himself Don Quixote.
But the world he enters is not the world of medieval legends.
It is ordinary, practical, and often unkind.
And yet Don Quixote refuses to see it that way.

SAMAR, Philippines There is a place in Samar that doesn’t exist on any map, yet everyone has heard of it. Some say it’s a city filled with golden lights, tall buildings, and strange people. Others believe it’s a trap — a place you can enter, but never leave. They call it Biringan City — the city that hides in plain sight.
For generations, Samar residents especially those from the towns of Gandara, Tarangnan, and Pagsanghan have passed down stories about this mysterious place. Some speak in whispers. Others speak with certainty. The only thing they agree on is this: Biringan exists, but only for those it chooses to reveal itself to.
Students Who Never Returned
One of the most talked-about stories comes from the 1980s. A university student from Manila returned to Samar and invited his classmates to visit his hometown during the semestral break. The group traveled together. None of them returned. Worried families went to Samar to search. But when they arrived in the supposed town of Biringan City, they were told no such place exists. Locals shook their heads. The student they spoke of could not be found. His records, address, and identity vanished — just like the city he came from.
Deliveries to a City That Isn’t There
There have also been stories of ships from Japan arriving in Manila, reportedly carrying goods meant for delivery to Biringan. When questioned, crew members claimed the city was listed as the next stop. But port authorities couldn’t find it on any registry.
A retired postal worker from Samar once shared that many letters — complete with names, streets, and barangays — were returned because they were addressed to Biringan.
“We couldn’t deliver them,” he said. “There’s no such city in our database. But the letters keep coming.”

The Bus Driver’s Story

There were no roads, no passengers, no tire tracks. He had no memory of how he got there. Locals later said the area had long been rumored to be a “portal” to Biringan.
Only the Invited May Enter
Old folks in Samar say you can’t find Biringan unless someone from there brings you in. They speak of friends and neighbors who were “invited” — often by strangers who appeared friendly, even beautiful. These strangers would offer food or drink.
The warning passed down through generations is clear: “Never eat the black rice.” “Never accept salt. ”Those who do, they say, are trapped forever. One elderly woman recalled being taken to a glowing city in the forest by a kind stranger. She remembered the warnings and refused to eat anything. The next thing she knew, she was waking up under a tree, back in her barangay.
Vloggers Search, Still No Proof
In recent years, vloggers and amateur ghost hunters have tried to locate Biringan. They’ve walked through forests, crossed rivers, and interviewed locals. Some captured strange lights or heard unexplained sounds. But no one has found the city.

To outsiders, Biringan is just a ghost story. But for many Samareños, it is very real — not just in the imagination, but in places you’re told never to go alone.
In Samar, when the wind is quiet and the night is still, some say you can see the lights of a city in the distance — glowing in a place where no city should be.
And if someone offers you rice, or salt, deep in the forest — maybe think twice before you say yes.

How to Hide Survival Caches on Your Property.
There’s an old saying that one shouldn’t put all their eggs in one basket. That statement very clearly applies to our prepping stockpiles. Keeping all of our eggs or any other food items in one basket entails a lot of risk, from a lot of different sources:
If your home is broken into, they can steal your entire stockpile.
If your home is overrun in a post-disaster attack, they can really steal your stockpile.
Government agents could confiscate it.
A natural disaster that destroys your home would also destroy your stockpile.
The solution, of course, is to avoid keeping all your food in one place. Some people understand this to mean that they should have a supply of food in a pantry off the kitchen, perhaps enough to last a month or two, while their real stockpile is hidden in the basement.
That’s okay for foiling someone who is doing a quick look through your home, but it’s not good enough to survive a concerted search. For that, the food needs to be better hidden.
Survival caches are stockpiles of supplies that are hidden away for future use. That idea isn’t limited to prepping alone. Secret military organizations might have caches of weapons or ammunition; so might spies for that matter. Back in the days of the mountain men, it was common for them to establish supply caches so they didn’t have to haul everything around with them. But for preppers, caches are places to put supplies so they still have something to use if they are away from home or their main supply stockpile is gone.
When preppers talk about establishing caches, it’s normally in the context of bugging out; establishing caches that can be used during the bug out or in one’s survival retreat. That’s good; but it’s not all that we should do. If our main survival retreat is our home, then we should establish supply caches there as well.
While the main thing that people put in these caches is food, don’t limit your thinking to only food. Anything that is important enough to stockpile, is important enough to put in a cache, especially:
Ammunition
Fire starters
Hygiene supplies
Medicines
Toilet paper
Water filters
Supply Caches Inside the Home
If we’re going to put supply caches in our home, the easier place to put them is inside. There are actually a lot of good hiding places in a home such as boxes of stored stuff in the attic, basement, or garage.
Filling those boxes half full of food and then putting the baby clothes and other things you’re saving on to, makes for a pretty good hiding place. Few searchers would bother to go farther than opening the box and looking inside; and if the first couple of boxes are just old clothes, toys and dishes, they probably won’t bother to search any more.
But there are also things that can be done to make good hiding places in the home, such as:
Putting Food in the Walls – Interior walls in the home have 3-1/2” of dead space, with only a few wires, pipes and heat ducts in them. The drywall can be removed from one side of the wall and food stacked inside. Then the food can be closed back in, by installing new drywall and finishing it.
Few people understand the ductwork in a home. It’s easy to buy additional ductwork to match what’s already there and create a false section of ductwork attached to the original. Just make sure that it looks the same, down to the tape that’s used to attach it being the same color.
As with the ductwork, few people understand the plumbing in a home. If the house has a basement, there’s a 4” diameter drain pipe somewhere. Adding another one that can be filled with food can provide another cache. The trick here is to have it going through the floor above and into the basement floor so it looks like it’s doing something and not just a spare piece of pipe sitting there.
There are many pieces of furniture with unused space inside them, which can be used to store food, such as inside the box (used to be box springs) that mattresses sit on, inside the bottom of sofas and underneath tabletops.
Likewise, the inside of appliances can have extra space that’s not being used, especially clothes washers and dryers.
Supply Caches in the Backyard
All of those places inside the home will work, although they are somewhat limited in the amount of available space. But they all have one big drawback. That is, if something happens to the house, the supply caches will likely suffer the same damage that your stockpile does. That specifically applies to if the house burns down, is flooded, or is destroyed by a tornado.
That’s why it’s important to have some supply caches in the backyard as well. Not only will buried caches be harder to find, but when they are properly done they are pretty much impervious to much of the damage that can happen to a supply cache inside the home.
Many people use PVC pipe to make these underground caches, but even 4” pipe doesn’t allow a lot of room inside the container. There’s another container available at the lumberyard which works much better, holding more than the pipe can – five gallon plastic buckets. With the lid firmly seated on the bucket, it is impervious to insects, rodents and moisture. The only part of the bucket which can be damaged by being underground is the wire bail for the handle; but it’s best to remove that anyway.
Granted, it will still take several five gallon buckets to make a decent cache, but if properly packaged, so as to avoid wasting space, they can hold quite a bit. You can also start a cache out with just one or two buckets, adding more later.
Buckets should be buried underground with the top of the bucket at least two feet below ground level. As you’re filling the dirt back into the hole, put something metal about a foot above the bucket just in case someone goes looking for your cache with a metal detector. That could be some scraps of metal, bits of hardware of even a few coins. If they find your “bait” they’ll hopefully stop digging.
Make Sure You Can Find Your Cache
Regardless of where you put a cache, make sure you keep accurate records of it. We’ve all seen movies and heard stories of treasure maps; well, make your own.
Just make sure that you use two sets of landmarks for each cache and that you’re detailed about directions and distances from those landmarks. Preferably those should be things that can’t simply be moved. In other words a boulder or a street intersection is better than a tree.
Having two sets increases the chances of finding your cache; if one is no longer there, you’ll have the other landmark to use.

10 Places You Can Hide Your Emergency Supplies.
Why Hide your Preps
The very nature of what we prepare for should be help us understand why we need preps in more than one location. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. That’s an old way of saying it. If for any reason you have to abandon your home then anything you cannot take is gone, too.
That could be in the face of a fire or even hostile invaders who want to take your home away from you and all the preps therein. So, you need places to hide your preps.
Seasoned preppers know that there is another reason to hide preps that has nothing to do with losing what is theirs. That is the reality of limited storage space. After a couple years of serious prepping, you start to run out of room, frankly.
Having preps in hidden locations gives you more room to achieve this. It is an eye opening experience when you start to realize your creativity can buy you all the storage space for preps that you could ever want.
Let’s look at 10 places to hide your preps. I am certain you will find a few that you can take advantage of.
1. Alternate Location
The first option on the list is an alternate location. When I say ‘alternate location’ I am talking about a home or fortified modern shelter of some kind. An alternate location should be a place that is climate controlled and protected from weather. It should also be secure.
Having a BOL, second home, or even a small cabin or shed that’s hidden on a piece of land, can be the perfect place to hide preps. They can be stored out in the open or you can hide them in closets or pantries.
At an alternate location you might even consider dedicating the first level to living and the second level to preparedness.
2. Buried Cache
A watertight container or even a large piece of PVC pipe sealed on both ends can become an awesome cache of preps that can be buried, spray painted and hung in a tree, or it can be weighted and carefully pushed to the bottom of a body of water.
I would recommend still water or slow-moving water for this. You can get really creative with where you bury a survival cache but you should keep a few copies of paper maps to be sure you remember where they are!
Plotting them on your phone GPS is a bad idea as that information can be easily accessed by others.
3. Strange Places in the Home
You can hide preps in your own home! You do not need to invest in anything or have extra cash to buy an alternate location. This whole hiding preps thing is a game for the most creative. When it comes to hiding preps in your home, I have seen some pretty creative stuff!
By rethinking your stairwell, you can create a hinged hiding place below underneath the steps
The space under your bed can be used and hidden easily
There is an interesting little space beneath your cabinet that can be used to hide preps, too.
Store preps on the top shelf of a closet, fill the space halfway, and then cover those preps with things that should be stored in a bedroom or linen closet.
You can give bookshelves the same treatment
Small preps can be stored in hollow doors
It really comes down to how creative you want to be. I have seen people store gold and silver in the walls of their home!
4. Beside Highways
There is land that runs beside highways that can be beneficial for a number of things. This is state owned land for the most part and it can be a great place to hide preps.
That said, you have to be careful about how old and congested the stretch of highway is. If you see build up in the area, then highway could be widened and you will have to find a hiding spot.
Use caches in the ground near highways.
5. Bunker
This is an option that can requires some investment. However, an underground bunker is not just a place to hide out from a nuclear blast. This is also an great place to hide your preps. Any underground bunker is going to be hidden if you install it properly.
While many cannot afford a bunker, it can be a perfect place to hide preps for those who can.
6. Under Structure
If you are building a shed, greenhouse, workshop, or something else, when you break ground, you can store long term preps either in the ground or in the concrete that you are pouring to make a base for that structure.
If you are not using concrete you can build a wooden frame for that structure and hide preps that do not require temperature control there, too. This could be a great place for things like
7. Abandoned Structures
This could be a little risky but if you are careful then you can have a lot of success hiding preps in abandoned buildings and structures. Covering your preps in ruble and rusty metal or fallen insulation is a great way to keep people from finding it.
Of course, hiding your preps anywhere that is not your property is dangerous and can cost you losing everything you have stored there. This is not the place you want to store a cache of guns or gold and silver. Still, it might be an option for you.
8. Deep in Water
While we talked about caching food in shallow waters the idea of hiding preps in deep water is a little different an undertaking. One of the important things to remember about deep water is that it will not freeze in most locations in the United States.
This means you can store shelf stable foods and things like that in a very comfortable temperature range if the water stays warm enough that it does not freeze. This deepwater is where you will find fish when the lakes surface freezes.
These deep water preps are going to need to be anchored by weight or by chain. There is a good chance you are going to need to learn to dive deep if you want to keep these preps in deep water and retrieve them.
You can get a little more creative with buoys and things if you own the water. However, you do not want people to reel up your cache in a public lake because they are gonna keep it!
9. National Forests
National and state forests make up millions of acres of land in this nation. There are wide open spaces that you can trapse through and might be a great place to hide preps. This would have to be a covert operation that looks more like a backpacking trip but it is something you can do.
The great thing about these protected lands is that you do not have to worry about this land being randomly dug up and buildings erected or towns and roads coming through.
10. Well
An old well can be the perfect place to hide preps. You can even store preps in an active well if you run a PVC pipe and pump to get the water out. That well can be completely covered with a decorative wooden well build that would make it look more ornamental than actually useful.
Nets and ropes are easy tools that you can use to hang preps into a well. Those PVC or waterproof caches can be dropped all the way down into the water as long as you have a way to get them back up out of the well.
How to Retrieve Hidden Preps
Each one of these hiding places is going to present their own challenges when it comes to retrieval. However, any time you are dealing with hiding places you should consider OPSEC or operational security.
Cover
If you are digging up an area, heading into a body of water, or walking through a National Forest then you should have a reason to be there. If you run into people or the fish and game commission the last thing you want to say is, “I’m just out here to recover my hidden preps.”
Carry Out
You need a backpack, duffle bag or something that you can use to carry out the goods. You do not want to be walking out of the woods or away from your hiding place with an armful of MREs, food storage, or ammunition.
Situational Awareness
If you are unaware, then someone might be paying attention to you! Chances are if you found a good hiding place for preps then you are gonna hide stuff there in the future. If someone is watching you enter the area with an empty bag and leave with a full bag they may get curious.
They could not only follow you into the woods, but they might find that hiding place and then capitalize when you are not there to protect your preps.
Conclusion
Storage space goes faster than you think! You can always make more money but once your house is full of preps it is time to get creative. This is a good time to start staking out hiding places either on your property or in your local area.
Be smart and considerate with where you hide your preps. Make sure you have paper maps because not everyone in your home is going to know where the preps are hidden.
Make a simple plan for recovery of those hidden preps and you will be ready for anything!

Haikouichthys ercaicunensis was one of the earliest known vertebrates during the Cambrian in China.
About 2.5cm long, it had a streamlined body with a long fin along its back and tail.
It lacked limbs and jaws, but it did have a flexible “upper lip” that could potentially have been used to manipulate food particles, either engulfing them on the seafloor or stirring them up into the water for filter-feeding.
And a recent study revealed a big surprise-it had four eyes !!!
Along with its already-known large sideways-facing pair of eyes, it also had another smaller upwards-facing pair in the middle of its face, giving it a much wider field of vision and the ability to watch out for predators from multiple angles at once.

What began as a quiet religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has evolved into a massive global celebration of Irish culture heritage and incredible food.
The mass emigration of Irish people over the centuries carried these traditions across the oceans creating entirely new culinary customs along the way.
While millions in the USA and Canada celebrate the biggest diaspora with Corned Beef and Cabbage or iconic Green Beer the original celebration in Ireland looks quite different. On this day in 1973, the Pink Floyd LP “The Dark Side of the Moon” debuted on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart at #95

It was the first week of what would turn out to be a mind-blowing, record-breaking run…
Although it held the #1 spot in the US for only a week, the album remained in the US Billboard 200 albums chart for a staggering 736 nonconsecutive weeks (from 17 March 1973 to 16 July 1988).
It has continued to sporadically appear on the US Billboard 200 since then, with the total at a mind-boggling 996 weeks.
As well as its success in the US, the album also went to #1 in New Zealand, Canada, and Austria, #2 in the UK (the highest selling LP in the UK without getting to #1), Australia, Norway, and the Netherlands, and #3 in Germany and Spain.
A concept album, “The Dark Side of the Moon” explores themes such as conflict, greed, time, death and mental illness, inspired by the band’s various pressures at the time, and their attempts to deal with the apparent mental health problems suffered by former band member Syd Barrett, who left the group in 1968.
Gifted engineer Alan Parsons was responsible for many sonic aspects of the album, and the recruitment of singer Clare Torry, who appears on "The Great Gig in the Sky".
He received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Engineered Recording, Non-Classical for his efforts.
In addition to its commercial success, it is also one of the most critically acclaimed albums in rock history.
Rolling Stone listed “The Dark Side of the Moon” as the best progressive rock album ever.
Looking back on the landmark album, keyboard player Richard Wright mused:
“It's changed me in many ways, because it's brought in a lot of money, and one feels very secure when you can sell an album for two years……
……It was not a deliberate attempt to make a commercial album. It just happened that way.
We knew it had a lot more melody than previous Floyd albums, and there was a concept that ran all through it.
The music was easier to absorb and having girls singing away added a commercial touch that none of our records had.”
The brilliantly simple album artwork designed by Hipgnosis and George Hardie, of a plain black cover with a glass prism dispersing a beam of light into colour, is also without question one of the most iconic and recognized record covers in existence.
In 2012, “The Dark Side of the Moon” was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
In 2020, the album was ranked #55 on Rolling Stone’s list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

A girl climbed a tree to look in the window at her grandmother's funeral, and her brothers looked up at the muddy bottoms of her drawers. William Faulkner saw that image and couldn't let it go. He built an entire novel around it, then spent the rest of his life calling it his "most splendid failure."
The Compson family is falling apart in Jefferson, Mississippi. The four sections of the novel are four attempts to tell their story, each from a different angle, and none of them quite enough.
The first is Benjy, the youngest brother, mentally disabled, who can't tell the past from the present. For him, Caddy still smells like trees, still holds him when he's scared, still exists even though she's been gone for seventeen years. The golfers on the land that used to belong to the family shout "caddie" and he hears her name, and the whole novel breaks open.
The second section is Quentin, the oldest, at Harvard on the day he kills himself. He's obsessed with Caddy's virginity, with honor, with the idea that his sister's body somehow carries the weight of the entire South. He tries to confess to incest he didn't commit, fights her lovers, and finally walks into the Charles River with flatirons in his pockets.
The third is Jason, the middle brother, bitter and scheming. He steals the money Caddy sends for her daughter, torments everyone in the house, and chases the girl when she finally runs off with a carnival worker.
The fourth is Dilsey, the Black servant who holds the ruins together. She takes Benjy to church on Easter Sunday, listens to a preacher talk about redemption, and says the only true thing in the whole book: "I've seed de first en de last... I seed de beginnin, en now I sees de endin."
The title comes from Macbeth: life as "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." The idiot is Benjy. The tale is everything. And you finish the book wondering if it signifies nothing, or if Dilsey's faith at the end is enough to mean something after all.

The Colossus of Rhodes was a colossal statute of the Greek sun God Helios in the ancient Greek City of Rhodes and was erected to thank the gods for the victory after a year-long siege of the island by the Macedonian military leader Demetrius Poliocetes and his army in 205 BC.
The sculptor Chares of Lindos was contracted with the enormous masterpiece that took 12 years to make. The exterior of the statue was made from bronze while inside an iron framework gave the figure shape. The colossus was weighted with stones and erected on a marble pedestal. The final masterpiece towered 33 meters above the city.
In 226 BC, only 56 years after being erected, a devastating earthquake toppled the statute into the sea breaking it at the knees. The pieces then lay for 800 years scattered around the harbour as the people of Rhodes consulted an oracle who advised against restoring it.
When it fell transcripts recorded that it was so big that men couldn’t get their arms around the statues thumb. It wasn’t until 654 AC when Arabian forces invaded Rhodes, that the pieces were sold and transported on 900 camels back to the east to be melted down and reused.
