This whole thing with #luigimangione killing #brianthompson and everything around it...I think if I'm being really honest with myself it just makes me incredibly sad. The US #healthcare system is so deeply broken and fundamentally it's structured to line pockets instead of provide care.
I know a lot of folks responded positively and I'm not here to judge that at all. It's just so messed up that the healthcare system is so stacked against the people who need it that the first thing to give anyone a droplet of hope was someone being shot dead.
I'm not so naive to be wagging my finger at those people, parroting bumper sticker wisdom of "Violence doesn't solve anything." But I'm also not so naive to think that a single murder is going to magically make greedy people care about others when that greed runs so deeply through so many different systems that help prop up this broken model.
So because I'm not naive, I'm instead just depressed. I want to live in a world where violence isn't needed to bring about systemic change but when someone asks me how else something like this could possibly change, I can't offer anything else that would work.
We've certainly talked this to death and it's only gotten worse. We voted a fascist into the presidency who if anything wants a cut of the profits. We have a congress that's deeply corrupt and were bought and paid for by some of these same healthcare organizations. So when people say that violence isn't the answer to this, I just get so incredibly depressed because it just feels like we are so far past having anything else as an option and I really wish that wasn't the case.
