it’s a witch hunt when anything over five paragraphs long gets dogpiled by assholes constantly questioning authenticity and sidetracking discussion. Which happens on a very frequent basis. To the point where I’m wondering if there’s any value writing something longform or putting any kind of effort into anything.

Thing is, what even counts as AI? Tone adjustment? Grammar fixes? Spell check?

If generative AI was merely the problem, okay, maybe I’d have some degree of sympathy. But all of it?

Should we not be using AI to assist with stuff like alt-text descriptions? Or image upscaling? Or playing a game of chess?

The reaction to AI has become so absurd, it’s become borderline nonsensical.

And sure, people use AI in unethical ways. But they also use Photoshop in unethical ways too. Should we decry all uses of Photoshop because it’s sometimes used for evil?

A hammer can be used for hitting nails or smashing skulls. Should we stop using hammers because bad people have used them for smashing skulls?

Finally, on the point about AI replacing creative work: that’s unlikely to happen unless uncreative people suddenly decide to start being creative. Because AI, by itself, doesn’t generate ideas.
