I'm optimistic. Like all tech, it WILL have an adjustment phase and it won't be fun at the start, but I do think it will also do some truly amazing things in the long run. I also don't have any concerns about AGI; I don't even believe that's a possibility, if I'm being honest.
This is coming from a guy who used to be adamantly anti-AI and concerned about so many things regarding AI. What I found is that the more I studied AI, especially at the technical level, the more I saw not only its potential, but I also saw things that assuaged many of my concerns.
The only long-term problem I do see about AI is how people use it as a crutch. This is true of all tech, though. I was saying the same thing about smartphones and while I've come to accept them, I also see so many ways that people have become over-reliant on them. I believe technology needs to be used responsibly, as a means of augmenting your weaknesses and cutting down on mundane tasks, not as an outright replacement.
I use AI to get around my lack of artistry for my profile pics, for example. I also use it to speed up my research of things, something that has helped me learn Linux much easier and faster than most. To be fair, I'm pretty tech-inclined, so there's that advantage, but there are things I've learned about Linux and Linux troubleshooting that I wouldn't have learned by just tooling around with my system and doing web searches.
