In classic Mac OS, I used to use a utility that would comb through all of memoryx (no memory protection!) looking for strings. I used it to recover text from unsaved documents after an application crashed, or if I accidentally hit the wrong button in a dialog, etc.
This kind of thing is harder to do on modern systems, but I’m glad to see people are still out there doing it. (But, yeah, don’t type large amounts to of text into web browsers…)
