Speaking of people whom MIT should probably have stopped employing long before they actually did …

Carl Hewitt, of actor model fame, at least in his later years was notorious within his own part of the CS community as a crank.

He claimed that the actor model was more general than Turing machines and could compute things normal Turing machines can’t.

Does anyone know when he started claiming things like this? At least by the 2010s he was saying this kind of thing but I’m curious for how long.
