At least BIP110 failing made this painfully obvious. The only defence Bitcoin has against malicious miners is a UASF or a POW change. The former got ignored by all pools, so in a centralised mining future the outcome won’t be any different. The only thing left is the nuclear option: a hard fork for a POW change, and we’re doing that. See the year below:
