Saw a post recently, recounting being hired eight years ago to set up a small business's backups.
They set a computer with linux, arranged access to what needed backing up, and got paid.
They assumed others were trained or hired for ongoing needs.
Got a call this year asking if they'd check over the system.
Everything was operating nominally, no errors in logs, incremental backups all solid. Seven years, no maintenance, no failures, linux.
Seven years, no one even looked at it.
