On golf
I heard this story one time that supposedly took place during a club championship at a local course. I’ve heard it from one claimed eyewitness and a few who said they had heard about it happening at the time the event allegedly took place, which was the early 90s.
The story goes that a local Stick is playing a few practice rounds leading up to the tournament and just cannot get anything going. Shanking his driver, yipping his irons, missing everything with his putter; really the only thing he’s hitting well is his seven iron.
He grows so frustrated that he decides the morning of the tournament that he is going to play the whole 18 holes using just his seven iron.
This guy was good, but he was by no means that much better than any other golfer out there, in fact, you told me he wasn’t even the best golfer in town at that time and this isn’t some part three course either. It’s an 18 holes local Muni, but definitely a challenge. But the guy so frustrated and mentally spun out after his practice round he decides he isn’t using any other club but his 7 iron. He even uses a seven iron to putt. Now, as the legend is told, he goes on to win this tournament by a significant margin.
Now, whether or not this actually happened as it was told to me is, in my mind irrelevant. The real point is that in Golf sometimes you just have to strip away your choices and decisions and just hit the ball with what you got in your bag.
I think life is a lot like this too. #golfstr
