Yes, but that doesn't matter, that's just an encoding. What is copyrighted is 1) the resulting sequence of notes from playing the sheet music (this is what survives when you play it), and 2) the specific sheet music in terms of layout on the page/etc (this just relates to the sheet music itself, e.g. photocopying it or re-transcribing it one to one).
