Ultimately, my attitude is shaped by the many times I have been told "we don't need nuclear, renewables are more than enough", and the fact that renewables have (at least since the 1970s) consistently been used as a smokescreen for anti-nuclear-ism, and consistently tied to the "low-energy society"/"degrowth" concept.

Not everybody who promotes renewables does so in bad faith, but renewables promotion itself is basically a bad-faith enterprise.
