It is very sad. The world governments have more or less unanimously decided that internet access should be coupled with ID controls.
The only positive I can think of is that it is an admission from the governments side of the power of ideas, and the power of free speech.
But since modern government are mostly nothing but dictatorships in disguise, they fear that the population at large will realize this and revolt.
