I have a friend who lives in New York with a $500K job. He lives in a nice apartment in the center and drives a $200,000 Porsche. From the outside, he looks like the definition of success and wealth.
But he works constantly and is consumed by his job. The car is financed. The apartment is too. The lifestyle he maintains eats up all the money he makes, and he doesn’t actually own any assets.
So while it may look impressive from a distance, in reality one serious change could collapse that entire lifestyle. In the end, he’s mostly servicing debt and working for other people.
