I think people, and I include myself can have mixed feelings about the whole institution. From an interest in the panorama of characters, castles and stories stretching back over the centuries, (history is endlessly fascinating) to a recognition of their role in doing good things (support in times of national turmoil, encouragement for charities and youth groups etc.) to a tiredness, exasperation, disgust even at the use of public funds, the entitlement, the behind the scenes manipulation of elected representatives to fashion laws in ways which entrench their already ample privilege.
This isn’t what a forward thinking society should be maintaining as we approach 2026. People are sick of the rich acting for themselves at the expense of the vast majority.
