Ukraine's military launched a surprise attack on Russian territory, using drones and satellite imagery for reconnaissance. The attack, which began on August 6, was planned by Ukraine's head of the armed forces, Col Gen Oleksandr Syrskyi, and involved the use of Western armour, including US Stryker and German Marder armoured vehicles. The attack has been successful, with Ukrainian forces advancing up to 35km into Russian territory and capturing hundreds of Russian soldiers.
