I couldn’t believe the reduced salary suggested on receiving my first job offer after a few years at home with my child. The company had seemed so enthusiastic after reviewing my experience so I didn’t expect it. A third of my final salary in my last role.

I protested to the HR director. Her response was that it had happened to her after she had children and that it was to be expected. Almost as though I should be grateful for the opportunity to return to work.
