• The Library of Alexandria dwindled (it's unknown if it was destroyed, or how) due to lack of funding and support during the otherwise prosperous Roman period. Its daughter library of Serapeum was destroyed under a decree issued by Christian bishop Theophilus of Alexandria.
• Lenin, who died 4 years after the bolshevik revolution, has been accused of many things but "destroying Soviet science" has not been one of them.
• Nazis did indeed burn books.
