I really wish Brexit had taught the rest of the world that if some idiot in power threatens to do something monumentally stupid it can actually happen. People seem to keep expecting some actual adults to step in and say "Oh but obviously that can't really happen, we'll sort it out" and they don't. People like this are surrounded by sycophantic grifters who have no interest in the common good or the long term, they'll facilitate anything that helps them suck up
