Look at the defense budgets. #Germany, the economic giant of #Europe, only recently remembered it had an #army. For decades, Berlin bet its entire security on being really nice to #Russia and buying its gas. That strategy, Ostpolitik, was basically the geopolitical version of “if we keep hugging the bear, maybe it won’t eat us.”

And then it did.
