Apparently I finally have to go into the DPS office to renew my driver's license this time, so I went to the online scheduler only to find out that the first available appointment is at the end of March, almost 2 months away. Ouch.
Plus, even though I've had a DL in this state for 25 years, I apparently still need to bring proof of citizenship. 🙄 Good thing I ponied up the extra cash to get a passport card when I got my passport book renewed. Now I don't have to go dig out my birth certificate or carry my passport book around for things like this.
But it also underscores the reality that this is just the first confrontation I'm having with a literal "papers please" situation under this more openly fascist regime. Guess I should probably just get used to carrying my passport card in my wallet at all times, eh?
