I personally believe the reason Merchan is waiting until after the election is because he is going to incarcerate Trump and by delaying until after the election it wont interfere or be used as as a tool in the election results. I felt it was very bad for Trump that Merchan didnt just go ahead and tell the penalty, if it was just a penalty an not jail time
If it was JUST a penalty, I believe Merchan would have been able to just say that penalty up front and add it to the list of other penalties that Trump has to PAY with money
I believe Merchan's penalty to Trump IS jail time and he is waiting until after the election because IF Trump were to be elected, this jail time is going to have to be finagled behind the scenes before announced, where as a monetary penalty would just be additional money owed by Trump.
I felt that Merchan delaying this was a devastating turn of events for Team Trump because they will not be able to appeal USING the election.
