I've tried this, it doesn't work, and there are good reasons why it doesn't work. Reducibility of fractions represents something observable and intuitive in everyday life (think about cutting up pizza). It doesn't involve infinity at all. It only seems like a related thing to "0.999... = 1.000..." if you already know how to think like a mathematician.
