it all depends on scale. Even then, I would much rather participate in communities that can freely express liking and disliking people based on content they produce, rather then in gated communities. That, of course, depends on the type of place we talk about. Official Discourse is not a place for this, but I'd argue that Reddit is. But I'm being off topic now.
