I'm told that due to a court ruling that "walking pace" for motorists was unenforceable, you can't build them any more. So they tend to be in 1980s constructions, and in the 80s Amsterdam was mostly building apartment blocks. So they tend to only exist out in suburbs of a particular vintage.

Apparently this came about around the same time as the 30kph residential speed limit, so they just quietly took woonerven out of the books and stopped building any more.
