I’m still up in the air on how I feel about their 30% take. I agree that nothing is free, so if you’re advertising a free app in their store, they’ll have to get their cut some other way. At least they’re not charging them monthly “rent”, regardless of what they sell, that would really bury most developers rather quickly.

Now, they do offer a subscription, that would guarantee they get a cut, except not everyone subscribes. So, we’re back to square one, how does Apple guarantee it gets a cut? By taxing zaps.

I don’t necessarily agree with their tactics, but I can certainly understand them. At the end of the day, they are still just a business.

I also don’t think popularity had anything to do with it, that’s kind of petty. I can’t see a multi trillion dollar company going after a single developer because his app does well and they’re not getting a piece of the action.

I also can’t see Apple allowing these other apps to continue violating their policies simply because the apps aren’t that popular. So, there has to be something else we’re missing.
