Independent thinking is always a hard thing. I've been guilty of making fun of them and trying to be one .

That sounds like quite a struggle. What was death like? Did you identify as Christian throughout those experiences or did something bring you to Christianity? Did you believe in the past?

I like the last part of what you said, that you are Christian despite team Christians. I feel like "hypocrite" is the first word that comes to my mind when i want to identify as Christian or hear anyone else identifying as Christian. But I try not to let my judgment of myself or others keep me from finding truth.

I heard (believe it was this Theory of Everything episode with Chris Langan) that one of the logical mistakes that I make is, since I learned about God as a child, I have a child's view of God, but just because I stopped learning about God as a child, that doesn't mean that my understanding is correct. So if I have the curiosity to come back as adults and take a second look, my mental model for God will mature.

This is where I am right now, coming back for a second look, after a couple wake-up calls.

Chris Langan is supposedly a super high IQ guy that has an explanation for accepting/rejecting God and the archetype of Jesus a savior that resonated with me.
I have a mental short-cut: if someone's smarter than me and saying something that requires more humility than what I have, I put a lot of weight to it. In this case there is a God we must accept to continue our existence.

Bitcoin actually helped with this "humble pie" shortcut because the first people I heard about it from where people I scoffed at.
