Both the state and the multinationals want to rob us of our privacy. The former asks us to sacrifice our privacy in exchange for 'security', which is achieved by putting people on file and then tracking them (e.g. social credit in China). As for the multinationals, they steal our private data without our knowledge. Thanks to Snowden, Assange etc. this is no longer a surprise to anyone, and yet nothing has been done. There has been no visible improvement, or even any effort by our governments to protect us from this theft. Today, the companies are not even hiding. Worldcoin is offering a few dozen euros in exchange for a scan of our irises/face. "What's the problem, they can't do anything about it", some might say. The problem is this. The business of reselling data is extremely lucrative. Depending on the type of data sold, companies could make between €2.70 and €69.55. This ranged from surnames and first names to hobbies and habits. But biometric data has nothing to do with personal data. Biometric data is sensitive data that can be used to identify any individual on Earth. And this kind of data should not be accessible to any company.

Now, Worldcoin has not announced what it will do with the data collected. And who knows what they will do with it. Resell it to governments, other companies, keep it?
If this were to become standard practice, the entire population would be on file, and video surveillance cameras would have no trouble identifying any individual using iris scans.
For the anecdote : "What drew me here was the cryptocurrency behind this project. I hope it will be better than bitcoin", one person scanned told to a french media.
