Are they as complex as with a subordinate? Most probably not. As a manger you need your subordinate to do what you want him to do, but you also want him to want to do it, to understand why it's important. Sometimes the task is hard ans silly but still needs to be done. A certain type of rapport needs to be established to insure a good relationship.

This is toaly a managerial issue. Sadly the easiest solution is to return to the office.
