to be sure, the reasons people believe untrue things are often very clearly downstream from lies told by politicians, billionaires etc who have both the means and motivation to intentionally shift the window.
but you can't take your mental state "I'm 100% confident it's a lie" and apply it to infer the motivations of others who have been persuaded, for reasons that make sense in their own frame of reference, to believe it.
