I was careful to use the words "might have." For many people, I'm sure it was valuable regardless of recent developments. As you point out, learning begets more learning, and you never know where you might end up.

For others, they may have spent fortune (possibly borrowed) on a university degree, expecting a lucrative career on the other end that never panned out.

To your point, I'll never regret the three months I spent learning Fortran, even if it's likely I will never use it in any practical application. It opened my mind to the logic of programming, and that's been incredibly valuable in a difficult to quantify way.
