Yes, that's the fundamental role of taxes. We build roads, schools, electric grid, hospitals etc for that money because someone long ago noticed it's stupid waste of money for everyone to build each of these separately. Adam's Smith "Theory of Moral Sentiments" and "The Wealth of Nations" are probably the first systematic and very insightful introductions into these concepts - except they need to read in full, not through cherry-picked quotes from the latter as done by the illiterate libertatians these days.
