China has successfully completed the first flight of a floating wind turbine, the S1500. The turbine harvests high-altitude jet stream energy, cutting costs and material use compared to traditional turbines. It is by far the largest airborne wind-power generator ever built.
The turbine reduces material use by 4% and cuts electricity costs by 30%. The entire unit can be moved within hours, making it suitable for deserts, islands, and mining sites.
