Ceding care of the poor to leftism rather than Christianity has been an absolute disaster for the poor. Even many nominally Christian charities see themselves as social workers with Jesus tacked on. But it's very clear that leftoids fully believe that happiness is just brain chemicals, so unhappy people just get given antidepressants or HRT or crack pipes or assisted suicide to make the badfeel go away, instead of teaching the poor Christian perseverance in suffering and virtue. There is no atheist Mother Teresa because there can be no atheist Mother Teresa.
