I've heard it called, "Pulling the welcome mat in behind you," in Miami. Especially recent immigrants are coming from authoritarian nations with strong-man leaders. That's what they're used to.
They don't get democracy, or the tradition of Enlightenment Liberalism. It's all venal misogyny and anti-Black racism.
