The new vulnerability in Trezor's TROPIC01 chip once again demonstrates that secure elements are more of a headache than anything else, even though this one is open source.
The best model is Jade's, which uses a multisig scheme for the PIN, is 100% software-based, and has no secure element involved. Any bug can be patched.
