In the late 1980s, a ruling class emerged in the Balkans that seized power in the name of nationalistic and fascist aspirations, promoting ideas of ethnic cleansing and cultural domination. They were obviously incompetent in every respect and pretended to know something they didn't have. The price for allowing them to come to power was the destruction of the country and hundreds of thousands of deaths.
