it is extremely traceable, there is an entire public ledger of every transaction. The biggest criminals have had their Bitcoin confiscated (it's why the USGOV is the 7th largest holder of Bitcoin now). It's not a very good money laundering tool, even the early developers are getting nailed by the IRS for not reporting their gains and being forced to hand over millions. Not sure why this lie keeps getting repeated when it is worthless to use to launder money.
