I guess this is a conspiracy theory -- although it's honestly just an extension of what already happens, so I feel like it's not even farfetched -- but my theory on AI hype is that the big money is not investing to try and create the perfect chat bot or image generator. they're not spending trillions on data centers so we can generate emails & code & videos. the real goal is aggregating all the data they're collecting on us & using it to manipulate people at scale
