I think you're right on so many points. I come from an old school watching background but I think my ex husband consumes media more in line with how people currently do and it's been interesting (and depressing) to see people trend towards his style over time.

He's older but he never "got" English classes and I use the word consume because it's most accurate.

There was a surface enjoyment but it was usually background (while playing video games or working).
