Great Egrets are So Freakin' Cool. Between their beautifully white plumage and bodies that should be gangly as all-get-out, but are somehow amazingly graceful in action, they are one of my favorite birds here around Monterey Bay and Elkhorn Slough.

Caught this one a few weeks back, just as they were launching the air, complete with small droplets of water coming off their legs as they powered themselves into fight.
