I just had this shower thought:
What if some of the taxing of proprietary software sales went to free and open-source software, which ultimately all proprietary software relies on despite giving basically none of the money back to FOSS.
That tax could also go to an independent organization that would audit code for malware. They could give their seal of approval to specific software releases, kinda like how food packaging can be labeled with certifications.
Thoughts?
