You can't let logic get in the way of a good movie concept!!
The biggest plot hole I've ever seen with Trek is that the V'Ger probe & man conglomeration never made a return mention in any of the shows or movies. That said, I haven't seen all of the shows.
I sneakily suspect that Lower Decks may have made a fast joke at some point. Again, I haven't seen them all.
