I am aware of the supposed paradox and need for housing. Planning isn't sought for housing in the abstract, though. People object to specific developments. Missing nuance makes it easy to label people as NIMBYs rather than dig into the deeper issues.
Proposals should be better and focus on place-making, not endless sprawl of car-dependent, environment-destroying, ugly but unaffordable boxes lacking commensurate infrastructure. Those might stand a better chance of local support
