What scares me the most is how many Americans just cannot imagine their #democracy can collapse. They picture it in post-apocalyptic terms, like in movies. They tie their sense of identity to a single issue that becomes the only thing that matters to them, and cling to it even as the entire landscape shifts around them.
Those who've lived in non-democratic countries know: fascism, autocracy, totalitarianism happen quietly and by inches and by the time you realize, it's too late.
