There's been a lot of hypericum flowering in our garden over the last couple of weeks. It also goes under the name of St John's wort, and is pretty much a native of the whole of Europe and Asia.
It has been used in herbal remedies for centuries, and there is some evidence that it is effective in the treatment of depression. On the other hand, it is fairly toxic to grazing and browsing animals, so isn't much welcome on farmland.
