Some of that money they've had for 15 months. We pay 22% on our SS as a hedge against the need to make big IRA withdrawals in case of a health problem, like my colon cancer a couple years ago. That's $700/mo. Medicare is $360. Medigap is another $420. Part D another $100. If we had to pay rent or a mortgage we wouldn't make it. Paying everything off in 2020, along with a $40k tax bill, was worth it but damn.
PS: I divested from all equities two months ago. Good fucking move.
